New York Skin Solution Visit DISASTER!

I have been suffering from a major acne breakout for the past 2 months. Is it the stress, hormones, or lack of sleep? What will I do to get rid of it???!!!

A few weeks ago, I was at the IT & Food Convention at Suntec where I came across New York Skin Solution's booth. The girl was friendly and managed to psycho me into getting a $10 voucher which gives me 2 facials. Why not? I thought. So I bought it. They asked me where I would like to target for the facial, so I decided, why not my dark circles? So I asked, do I have to sign up for packages or what, or is it just a facial? She said it's just a facial. Do not need to sign up for anything.

On Mon, I decided to head to New York Skin Solution at Ngee Ann City after making an appointment with them. Perfect time since Audi Fashion Festival was the week before, and my skin was starting to get really bad from all the late nights of work(it was enjoyable though). An outbreak of Acne sprouted across my cheeks. So, at New York Skin Solution, I told them to target my acne instead. When I arrived, I was with much dismay as they greeted in me in mandarin. I did wonder whether I was at New York Skin Solution or China Skin Solution. It was annoying that they did not live up to their company's name, but anyhow, I brushed that impression aside and went on. I was brought into a room where the consultant put this magnifier thing which looked like a telescope onto my face. I saw all the acne up-close and personal!

Then she went on telling me that I should go for an acne treatment package. I told her that I wasn't so interested to pay so much for a treatment like that. She kept insisting and insisting in her weak English that if I did not do it, it would spread and get worse. I was wondering, was that the only solution to acne? So, anyway, I was persistent with my "NOs" and she finally gave up. She called someone else in who couldn't speak English fluently too, who tried the same thing on me. She said that I need to sign the package today to get the first trial price and blah blah blah. I told her that I just need my face to settle down after a week of late nights and hard work. She said it won't work. Then she went on insisting again, trying to persuade to me that it won't work and that it's an infection, showing me pictures of her customers whose skins have improved. But the persuasion still didn't work. Seriously, hard selling doesn't work on me honey...

I went into a room which really looked like a hospital in a room, with the hospital curtains and people snoring. Not to mention the disgusting "ting tong" music which came out from the ceiling speakers. Another girl attended to my facial. She seemed to have been able to speak English a lot better but still not very good. During the facial, she kept annoying me asking me to upgrade to a Collagen package and blah blah blah. It was $60 more, mind you. I declined. But like her colleague, she kept persisting. I really did not enjoy myself being relaxed and getting a facial. She left for a while and later came back and said she upgraded my facial FOC. I mean, if the $60 was such a big deal initially, why is it free now? Anyway, during the facial, she did half of my face with collagen and then took a mirror for me to take a look at the difference. She said, "Can you see the difference?" I replied.. No... She went on showing me that there was a difference but I really did not see any difference but I played along and said yes.

After the whole facial was over, I was brought into a room again. This time, yet another consultant tried to persuade me into getting a package. I was really fuming with anger and annoyance. I told her, "I came here to get my facial done, not to sign any packages!" I think she got the hint this time. She said it's ok then. Nice try New York Skin Solution. How can a company's reputation be left in the arms of Mandarin speaking workers whose aim is just to sell packages instead of creating the best atmosphere for the client? In total disgust, never again, never will I recommend anyone there. Seriously... it's not worth the $10, not to mention, they did not tell me whether I could book the 2nd appointment.

On a lighter note, I headed home and visited Dr. Georgia Lee's website. I came across this product called ACNE Cleanser. I was thinking, should I give it a shot? $78 for a cleanser when I normally spend $10-20 on a normal one. I emailed Dr. Georgia Lee about my condition(without sending her pics of my acne) and she replied by the next morning. She told me that I would need antibiotics and to do it early to prevent scarring, not forcing me to get any of her products. I decided to visit one of their booths at Robinsons the day after the facial to see if there was anything that could help speed up the process. The counter girl was so helpful. She was telling me that I just needed to use the Skin Repair serum for the targeted areas as my acne wasn't that bad. It was however, $20 more than the cleanser. But I thought, what the heck, I need it! and it's so much cheaper than getting a package at New York Skin Solution. So, I bought it. It's been 3 days of using the product and guess what... My acne is actually clearing off! It's not fully gone but it's gotten flatter. The counter girl did say that I'll see results in a week, but it's working wonders on my face already! So since the acne is clearing up, I do not need any antibiotics. The wonders of DrGL. I'll continue with this product review for 2 weeks and see whether it fully clears up.

Nonetheless, Thank You Dr. Georgia Lee!

    1. Hey Shelly, yeah I think they treat all their customers in that way. It's hard selling and when things don't get their way they are not happy about it. I have found a place which is 10X better. Follow me on The Kowdashion Blog, http://kowdashions.blogspot.sg/ cos I will be posting this weekend about this natural skin care place which I go to now. The best part, the owner believes in his products so much that he doesn't have any packages there! Really nice people there!

    1. Yeah its pretty common. Why don't you try The Natural Skin Clinic. It's really good. There are pretty fast results and its natural and the people there are super friendly. You could check my review on their product on my new Blog, The Kowdashions, http://kowdashions.blogspot.sg/2013/02/clearify-magic-liquid-to-solve-your.html.

  3. Yup its very mild. My face is still oily, but not as oily as before. A healthy oily. It helps shrink pores and stuff. You should go down to the clinic and talk to them cos they will analyse ur skin n will know what is good and all. It is organic and surprisingly, it works better than the normal chemical stuff from my point of view. And people have actually told me my skin looks radiant now.

  4. Thanks for the info but i only have combination skin so could i still use it? I rarely have breakout but only concern about the oily T-zone. Can i just buy the products from them without consultation?

My bad experience with NYSS is after the senior consultant did the 1st facial n successfully persuaded me to sign package , she would ask her assistant to do the facial n sometimes one session can be done by 2 different staffs! Till thing get so worse that out of 90 mins , 45-60mins is doing mask!! I was so pissed off i didnt continue for 2 yrs n i saw they opened clementi branch n i asked for transfer. Initially the consultant is good n i satisfied w her service till the new branch got more customers n the same things happened again!!. I have heard the same complaints b4. Dont waste ur time n money on this scam shop. Pls let all ur frds know n i cant wait for them to close down anytime soon.

  11. Went to The Natural Skin Clinic after reading an article from Shape around 2010. I had sensitive and combination skin issues. After the 2nd facial, my whole face was so itchy and red that I had to go to and see a dermatologist urgently. I spent close to a $900 buying products and 2 facials. In the end it didn't work for me and I was not able to get the doctor to see me the 2nd time to resolve the redness and itchiness on the face. The lady at the reception (aka mother) told me "I suspect ours didn't work for you". Couldn't get any refund at all. Blah.

  15. I felt sorry for those girls that been pushed to buy facial packages with NYSS. Nonetheless, I was lucky to met my skin consultant, Ms. Lxxx ;-). Below is my personal experiance to NYS- Jurong Point:-

The front desk staff greeted me and led me into a small room for consultation. Then a young girl, Ms. Lxxxx came in introduced herself as my skin consultant. She asked if I had any issues or concerns regarding my skin and said that once she looked at my skin under those skin scanner, she be able give me an idea on what's going on with my skin ( I suffered from severe acne problem!). Upon proper explanation by Ms. Lxxx, we proceed into treatment room for my facial.

She explained all the applications she applied to my face and was very gentle. She even applied a hydrating mask where she massaged my face to work in the mask because my face has been dry lately (damn haze!) LOVE when she applied the mask and pressed it against my face. It's SOOOOOOOOOOO nice! I almost want to fall asleep;-)

She recommended I exfoliate once a week, maybe twice if I'm feeling oily, to help with the clogging of my pores. She said that the dead skin (I'm sure you want to know all this) doesn't fall off so it gets stuck in the pores which then eventually clogs them and blackhead begin to form. Yeck!

The facial was about 60 minutes long but it felt longer. That's a plus when getting anything that's meant to replenish your body and mind. You never want to feel like it goes by face because how often do get pampered (ok, me, not so much) and get to just relax??

After she was done, I met her outside. She asked how I felt (I feel awesome!) and showed me the daily facial products she applied during my facial. I paid for a 10 sessions collagen package for about S$xxxx (with a set of skin care products) and decided to make another appointment in a month.

I can't wait to come back here to get my facial again. Lxxx was super nice, and very profession. She was more than willing to answer any questions or concerns I had and wasn't trying to push me to make another appointment or to buy products like some people do. Nothing worse than a pushy person, so you won't feel guilty if you don't buy or make another appointment here.

  18. Im a victim of their constant hardselling.I have spend near 10k on package w nyss. And its a waste of money as i dont see any jmprovement on my skin. I suffer from outbreak on forehead and i hate my face mofe after each facial. Ur face will have alot of red marks after facial and it takes ard 1-2 weeks to heal or lighten.

Pls do not go to nyss. Count me in to file the case

  19. Hi All!
Thank God as I managed to read these blogs before going in at NYSS.
Yesterday I have an appointment with them around 6:30 (last cut-off time), but luckily I wasn't able to make it on time (late for 15mins) due to some delays along the way (Thank God! He really saved me from this all).
Eventhough their clinic was very consistent in reminding me of the appointment set and what to bring I forgot to bring my IC so it's a plus-plus idea for me to give a second thought to proceed or not. As a courtesy I still go to their clinic to personally check on them that I was late, since I was already at Novena that time anyway. When I reached the clinic one of their staff told me "Since you were late we can proceed with your treatments but it will be very rush", which made me feel uncomfortable having that. So we decided to reschedule my appointment on the next day. Since I was with my boyfriend that day, they tried to offer to set appointment for him too. So I feel a bit good to know that they are too generous to offer their free service to anybody interested. So I tried to provide them the details of my boyfriend like contact no. and IC no. for them to formally set an appointment for him. But thank God to read those blogs before we proceed to their clinic tonight. I immediately SMS my boyfriend to ignore any calls from them later. And decided to watch movie later instead of going in to NYSS which I think would definitely worth our time rather than be tortured emotionally and psychologically with their hard sell talks experience later on. Thank you bloggers and hope this scam will put into an end soon.

  20. Hello! So recently there's some NYSS promotion included in SingTel bills for people whose birthday is in June, July and August. I didn't see any harm in signing up for the free session so I arranged for an appointment with them. Went there yesterday and the treatment felt quite good. However, after the session, the consultant tried to persuade me to sign up for this series of 10 treatment sessions which costs $4600. Obviously nobody would want to commit to such an exorbitant package just after the first trial, even when it comes with an attractive extra 10 sessions. I told her no I can't, especially since I just graduated from university and only started working recently so there was no way I can fork out such a hefty sum. Then she said I could sign up for 5 by paying $2300 and get 5 for free. By that time I could tell all she wanted to do was to get some sales commision. Again I said no I can't, as I don't have savings yet and it'd be my parents who pay so I can't do anything without asking them. I was quite persistent with that argument so she eventually got the idea that I wouldn't sign up for anything. So she suggested I purchased some product from them, This was when I got quite angry. It really sounded like she didn't really care how I spend my money, as long as I do she'll be happy. Luckily I was stubborn enough to get myself out unscathed by their hard-selling tactics.

Seems like we all share similarly horrendous experience at NYSS!!!

  21. New York Skin Solutions has the worst customer service ever!

I got a free trial session by answering some survey they had in collaboration with JobsDB. The first session was a great experience - the therapist explained everything in detail, including how horrible my skin was and how they can help.

I got bought into it, paying a huge sum thinking that it can be a sweet treat for my horrible skin (I honestly think it was fine, but they made me feel it was horrible after the scan) ..

So I went for my second session (first was the trial), and I had the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I had the same consultant as before but she had a total different attitude, she was rude, angry, did not explain the treatment to me at all... And the treatment was just below standard! One that does not require you be a professional to execute . Extraction was not done properly, the steam was aimed at only one side of my face, the consultant was very reluctant to do any work at all basically.. To top it off, my skin did not look as good as the first time, it felt dry and I was ultimately dissatisfied!!

So I lodge a complaint to the store manager. Her name was Rain.

After apologising profusely, this manager PROMISED me a refund of one session. But guess what? I just called them to claim it today and she asked her assistant to tell me that she never promised that. When I asked to speak to her, the assistant said that she's busy (yeah right!)

What a lousy customer service!!!! They are selling poor service at a premium price, treating you like a queen when they try to get your money and once they succeed, you will be treated like dirt. They're not interested in serving you, only interested in getting you to sign on expensive packages.

  22. Haha! I was lucky. I almost got psychoed into sign up a $5000 package with New York SS after their hard-pressure tactic, even when my face was red after my first trial. My class-mate went to another place and I decided to tag along after seeing her amazing improvement. Her red acne scars disappeared just after one treatment. Check it out at: www.acneblackheadssingapore.com/testimonies.php

They won't force you to sign packages. I'm now going for my fortnightly facials. You'll love them.

  23. I feel sad! Like, I won a free facial from NYSS and just wanted to let my sister do it instead cause I don't trust them. The day of the appointment, it was decided that both me and my sister get the treatment. They persuaded both of us to buy the package but only my sister could afford it, being me, a blur sotong, I didn't listen to anything that was going on and my sister wasted her money! The final result were horrible for me and no difference for my sister. I didn't have any acne nor much pimples except this one annoying pimple and after the facial, I got 6 extra acne around my face! Because of NYSS, I can't trust facial treatments anymore!

  24. omg yes. just had my free trial at New York. none of them could speak english, my consultant asked me if i could speak in chinese. i could, but i told her "not really". (if you want to work in singapore freaking learn how to converse in english first) And the after-treatment process was just torture. one person couldnt convince me so they had to bring in someone else. As if having 2 people forcing me to buy stuff wasn't hard enough, they sent in another person to talk to me. I was fuming, honestly

  25. I just did my free facial treatment and getting a box of free trial set. That woman who consult me at first just telling me how bad my skin was. And im okay with that as i personally knew that i didnt take care of my face so much. But then she started talking about how much sessions do i need and how much i need to pay. She insist me to sign up for member and it cost rm800..of course i rejected and she then offer me to deposit rm100 first. I said that im a student and i cant afford such treatment even its worth rm50. Then she still insisting me to deposit some money and this time she offer rm10 but i still refuse. Even during the treatment she keep telling me to deposit the rm10 but still i said no. Until the end of the facial, she still doesnt give up. After i still said no,then she finally stop offering me those packages and giving me my free trial set. But luckily she didnt get her friend to convince me and she wasnt rude to me during the 3 hours.
